I recently purchased 3 hens over 1 year old. On there legs they have a metal band with numbers scribed on them, do I have to give my hens a yearly check up with vaccines etc....

The leg bands are for identification purposes from their previous owner. Breeders frequently use leg bands to help keep track of their birds. You don't have to keep it on. You do not need to take your chickens for annual check ups, vets that treat poultry are not all that common. I live in a rural community and there is no poultry vet anywhere near by. Once a chicken has been vaccinated for something, it does not need 'boosters.' Many backyard flocks aren't vaccinated at all.

Welcome to the BYC flock! We are glad you joined us!
