Our drake has 5 ducks, but 'concentrates' on one. We have to put a stop to this since he is damaging her. He already inadvertently killed one.

Is it possible to neuter him surgically - the implants and injections are too expensive for long term use

Many thanks

I in in North Carolina. Last summer I called all the local vet schools, farm vets and avian specialists in my area. They all said they would not neuter. I was told to use melatonin and the hormone injections. However nothing really helped. I rehomed that particular male.

First time I heard of neutering a duck was a lady called about a Drake I was selling...I almost fell over. She would not take him because he was not fixed....I later found out it is possible but pricey....Like fixing your dog....

Best off sell the Drake.

Many thanks, he's not really aggressive it's just that he's in love with only one of the ducks, and he's mating her on the land instead of in the pool. That's what happened to the other duck

Anyway, we've decided to have a hormonal implant which should last about a year and then hopefully he will be older and wiser (he's 2 at the moment) It's rather expensive (rather expensive for a drake!!!)

Hope that maybe helps other people though when they are deciding whether to cull (eat) the drake, neuter him or do an implant.
