Just thought I would share some pics of my latest egg art. Due to the cruddy weather here in MI this fall, and thanks to some time off between jobs and an overabundance of eggs....egg art is happenin!!!

I plan on giving these to relatives as gifts/ornaments this Christmas. Who knows....if I still have time after the holidays to keep up with this...I may get into selling them....

Here are all the eggs I've done so far. I painted them by hand except for the ones with words...those are rub-ons....

I am wondering how I should preserve them...I have varnish, mod podge, and spray sealer....I'm just worried about ruining the designs on them....so I'll have to experiment with those things. Any ideas? And if I decide to make them into ornaments I'll have to figure out how to string them up....looks like there's some good info on that on Miss Prissy's thread.

Caleb, great job! I love the etched egg you did! What is the black material on that one? The word eggs are fun. I gather you blew the eggs out first? I remember doing the wax craft on eggs way back (darned if I can conjure up the name right now) and we used intact eggs then and in time they totally dried out and became practically weightless - no odor.
As to preservative, good question. It would in part depend on what the material is that you're covering (besides the egg).

I'll just have to make some dummy eggs and see which preservative works the best? The rub-ons shouldn't be a problem.

I've heard you can leave the eggs and let them dry...I may try that...

Those are awesome Caleb! You truly have a gift! You really ought to sell those! I know I would buy some.
You could probably get a spray sealer, what you would use on clay pots. Then use a spray coat of polyurethane or something similar.

BTW....I like that pic much better than your lurking one....LOL

Caleb, those are beautiful.I especially like the etched egg. You truly are an artist.

I used a non-yellowing, spray on craft sealant, and some of my eggs (metallic marker and metallic spray paint) did run. I think the key is to use several LIGHT coats. I used heavier coats and I think that was the main problem.

Hoosiermomma - I did do the artwork behind me. Those are oil paintings from a college painting class.

Kansaseq - Thanks! I do have a spray sealer...I will have to make sure I use light coats....thanks for the tip.
 
Those are amazing!! I can't wait to get to Hobby Lobby later this month to get some craft stuff to do mine.

I'm wondering how they would do if you coated them in a light dip of clear wax, then shellac or poly them.

Beautiful eggs! The etched one looks really cool, and those animal prints worked great with the natural egg colors

All I have is mod podge, so I hope when I finally get to try these, I don't end up with stuff running everywhere! Right now I'm getting a grand total of 0 eggs out of my 8 laying hens

Too cold and rainy I guess. Usually my sex-links keep popping out a few here and there.
