Does anyone have any tried and true methods of darkening egg yolk color?

Also, for things like carrots that may darken color, what happens if you grow purple or white carrots? Do they still contain the carotenoids needed to darken?

Greens! be careful not to give too much though because I hear they can actually turn sort of green... my girls love wild mustard plants and the yolks are such a lovely, deep orange.
I give them the carrot tops, and keep the carrots for myself... mine don't seem to like roots much anyway.

Corn sounds good, and, I have a garden of greens planned for my chickens so that should be good.

How about things like pumpkins and calendula flowers?

Compared to store-bought, mine are darker...more orange. They get greens like cabbage, kale, lettuce, etc... They also have been nibbling on grass shoots when it peeks up through the snow.

During the summer when there was plenty of greens for my chickens to forage on their own the yolks were a very deep orange. Now that it's winter, I'm feeding corn on a regular basis. The yolks are still orange, but not near as strongly colored as they are when they get their greens.
