I have a RIR that has been laying eggs with soft ends like this for months (as well as very thinned shelled eggs which break in the nesting box)...have tried everything to no avail. The feed store guy thought it could be a "defective" chicken...giving her some more time as she's a sweetie. She didn't always lay eggs like this...just for the last 5 months or so.
I really don't know that much but have been reading all about chickens for about 2 years now. I read that if a chicken has problems with thin shells they are most likely not getting enough calcium, and to give them more crushed oyster shells.
Been there...done that and more! It was suggested to me that she may have a metabolic disorder and to cull her. But...I also noticed a couple of weeks ago that she is molting on her breast (couldn't see it)...maybe that's the problem. ????
