Rita always sleeps in her nest, not the roost pole in the roosting house, so i removed the horizontal roost pole. A red heat lamp was added, along with a little self-contained thermostat. It comes on at 35f, off at 55f.
After this photos, I moved the thermostat to a location near the floor, and it would keep the temp in the roost & nesting boxes at a more comfortable level. Never gets real warm, but it keeps it above freezing. Worked great, especially on those nights that were in the single digits and low teens. I put her water bottle and feeder in the roost house when the temps are low like that, and she seems very happy to stay warm and have her water close by. :-)
