I am considering downsizing the non egg layers out of my flock, since I saw my white Leghorn crowing alongside my rooster this morning, should I consider him for the fry pan?
Thank you to everyone who has posted about green poop. I have seen it tonight and came right to this site for information. I have had 3 chickens die this summer from illness, not predators. They were older hens but still 3 is a lot to lose :-( I will try antibiotics in the water but I'm not...
Wow, that is some strong opinions on the mice. We live on 10 acres of woods. It makes sense to keep the mouse population low in my coop, but for every family I kill another is going to come in looking for the warmth and food in the coop. Its harsh on the outside. I'm not sure I can keep up.
My coop is actually a garden shed built by my family, so not perfect. I saw the little mouse today when I opened the door, running into a hole. The only food they can get at is the spill from the chickens. No harm if there are not too many?
Hello everyone, I have enjoyed reading this post and seeing the pics. It has made me a little sad because I bought my first turkdy this year and was going to eat her. However she has lumps on the sides of her face, one larger than the other, so I think we can't eat her. :(
I live near Ann Arbor in Michigan. I would love to have a couple of Seramas. Can they live in a Standard size flock? Or do they need to be only with other small chickens?
My chickens are pets. They aren't as close a pet as my dogs, but they certainly don't qualify as a business venture. If it is its running at a loss!! The last 5 hens I took in were from a friends laying flock. They are older ladies who don't lay as often and were getting beat up by the other 70...
Thanks for your reply. I figured it was because ther might be antibiotic in the eggs and I'm not allergic so I think I will eat them. The chickens just had a little respotory wheezing, that's why I gave them the antibiotics. I will stop the medicine tomorrow and i will wait another 2 weeks...
Hi, my hens have been drinking oxytetracycline HCI in their water for 2 weeks now. The package says not to give it to hens who lay eggs for human consumption. I haven't been eating any of their eggs, but I wonder if the eggs would do me any harm. Anybody have any ideas?
Thank you all for your help. I'm sure I cannot handle injecting a turkey. I think I'll take the advice to wait untill Christmas to eat her. Sounds so harsh!. I don't think a sinus infection would make the muscle meat inedible. Do you? I should isolate her and increase her dose in the water but...
Hello, I have 14 chickens that I plan to never eat, they are pets and egg queens. However I have one female turkey that we would like to have for Thanksgiving dinner. However she has a soft lump under one eye. She's on antibiotic water for 2 weeks, as are the chickens due to wheezy breathing and...
