I have the 1588 with the auto turner. I have two chicken egg racks in and two goose racks. (Quail with rack attached) . I had to shift things around to get it to work. Max 4-5 goose eggs with 14 chicken eggs. The goose racks are harder on the motor to turn, so have to be careful about overloading.
Mine seemed fine last year, but is low compared to other thermometers this year. Currently have it set on 102 with other thermometers reading 98-99. It seems to have gotten off 3-4 degrees while sitting over the winter
They are about 4 months old, so you are probably right about making final decisions.
I don't have two pens yet, so will need to leave them together for now.
One of the pullets doesn't have a crest. How big of a fault is that considered?
The Cream Legbar eggs seem more fragile. I have tried hatching from 5 different sources. Swedish Flower Hens have had way better hatch rates even when eggs were same dates and source as the Cream Legbars.
My Cream Legbar hatches have been
2 males out of 11 eggs on the first batch
3 females out of 8 eggs on second.
0 out of 6 on the third.
Turkey eggs have even been worse
0/6
1/12
1/8
1/6
Does the average egg size vary a lot? I have purchased eBay Cream Legbar eggs from 5 different sources. They were all probably second generation from Greenfire stock.
Two sources the eggs were quite small. The other three were pretty good size.
