The Joys of Owning Imported Orpingtons

Hey Harry; Just have to say I was at Frederick Today and met the Wenerichs (Nice People). You helped get them off to a real good start. I guess Renie and Vivian are having a blast up North.

Those Should be Very Good Australorps ViVi. If you live on the east coast you often run into Whitneys Australorps. He is an Awesome Very nice Guy, You might see some of his Australorps at Boston.

Funny thing on the Aussie's, A few of us OLD SCHOOL Orp Breeders referred to them as Black Orps without Type. One really Good Breeder called them **** Black Barnyard Chickens or Crows. I am sure that would stimulate an Australorp Breeder but they are always your competition and there are...

It sure does not bother me. I have on occasion eliminated entire Groups of Birds out of Cockerels that threw a high percentage of Stubs. I am always more Focused on Type than anything else.

Yeah you and Renie should be good with that Cross when it comes to Stubs. I don't mean to say I have a big problem with it in My line either but it does show up on occasion as well as a Yellow Legged one if you hatch out about 250 of them and I know for Fact No Rocks in the Blood for Many Many...

I never had any in my strain either over Many Years, Either until I put the Watford Birds into my line. I really liked the OLD Style English type on those Watford Birds. I had the Stubs fairly well out of them when Bill Bacon got the Best of them Back. I will eventually get them eliminated...

Those Stubs are going to be a pain in the whites. I Put a Ray Watford Buff out of a 23 year Closed English Flock from out of Canada 12 years ago and I still have deal with them in my Strain of Buffs.

No problem with that thought. I am keeping 4 Import Cross Cockerels. I am going to send a pair to a United Orp Club member at Columbus. If you would get in a serious Bind about a cockerel in spring, I could help you out. I have done this a few times before with fellow breeders in my area.

Vivian Hope you get Better Quick. That weight sounds about right for that cockerel compared to my original Bird of that strain. I think the Birds of that strain, especially the dark ones have some Decent Prepotency for Buff Pigment. I still really like the Type on those Birds I especially like...

Harry; I managed to maintain some size in my whites , but the cockerels I would like heavier. The Imported Sacre Buffs crossed onto Mine gave some 11.5 cockerels I like the size on these. The Pullets all weighed * lbs at point of lay and they lay like crazy. I didn't use any Sacre Whites, Just...

I noticed the Evenness of Color on that cockerel as well. My Import Cross cockerels came even in color even though I Bred them to a Huge 9.5 lb. Pullet of mine that was a little dark in wing bow. Now about 90% of the Pullets came nice even Color of the pullets. Some were light colored in the...

I was referring to your Cockerel. I don't have any Strait Import Birds. My results were fairly consistent on Pullets but Cockerels Varied quite a bit. Some Very near Import Size and some much heavier. I was wondering what the actual weight is on strait Import Pullets at point of lay.

I find the Improper Long Tails most objectionable on the Male Birds of several Large Fowl Breeds. I sometimes wonder if Non Newbie's can't read or are Just Blind or Stupid. Maybe they need some Old Standards to Stare at Images while Reading Descriptions OVER and OVER.
