A Persistant Purist & Preservationist Backyarder interested in rare breeds, predominantly chickens, with an emphasis on disease-resistant breeds/strains for meat & eggs. Having never raised commercial strains or hybrids has provided a unique background from which to judge other breeds. I believe there is a perfect traditional, non-hybrid breed for everyone based upon their needs & taste. A century ago many of these breeds were of far superior quality but sadly, after two world wars that killed many farmers, dedicated breeders & their birds; some of the following irresponsible partying generations & societies of people conditioned to rely upon governments to provide 'safe' food for them, much was lost due to inferior breeding numbers & a lack of interest. Widespread disease, allergies, & a thousand other reasons have awakened many & the food revolution towards healthy food is well underway. Most chickens in America are raised in CAFOs & fed a regular diet of antibiotics, GMOs, steroids, growth hormones, diseased animal remains & injected with plenty of nasty poisons. Most of these same chickens develop tumors & cancer & their products end up as human food. Just think: Every meal you eat may be made with eggs &/or meat from those sick birds. Any honest doctor or scientist will tell you that after a prolonged time of such a diseased diet people, especially children, can & very well might develop health problems. You can change that. Vote by shopping. Stop buying sick eggs & meat & foods made with them. Join the revolution! Boycott bad “food”. Don't believe anyone who labels a food 'natural' – the worst of them use & abuse the term all the time. Demand to know more. Even if you live in an apartment there are better choices of food out there. Support your local honest farmer who doesn't use poisons & sludge on his food. Every dollar you spend on food wisely can help save the genetic diversity of our food supply & keep these breeds going and the health of our children!
