My girl was not laying. This has a sad end. She did not make it. The meds seemed to be helping, but she was very thin before she got sick. She stopped eating. I do think the Monistat helped, but you may want to try something like nystatin which is meant for that type of consumption. I...
Thank you thank you thank you!!! My gal was looking horrible. She had not eaten or drank for days. I thought we were going to lose her. I decided to try the Monistat after reading this and in 12 hours she is already improving!! Her crop was way down in size and this morning she chased a few...
I have done my research and she has sour crop. Purging her is the next step. Antibiotics were bad. I have heard conflicting reports on food afterward. Some say only water for 12 hrs, others say yogurt and apple cider vinegar. Any thoughts?
Okay new symptom. Her crop is huge and feels like a fluid filled balloon! She is vomiting up what is inside there. Is this grit? What do I do? I have an appt with the vet tomorrow, but anything now?
She has access to water. We always take it out of the coop and set it in the run and they don't seem to bother her there. We have laying pellets as well as a flock block. We give them meal worms as a treat and some table scraps (fruit veggies etc). We make sure that she gets her share of...
I have a white easter egger. She has been the bottom of the pecking order and has always been sketchy, skinny and fast because of it. We love her dearly though, (she has such a personality) and she is very ill. I have not witnessed her eat or drink in a few days. She has had Tylan 50...
She looks much better this morning. She laid an egg, ate a ton and her eyes are staying open. I guess the Tylan was what she needed. I put her back with the flock today and things are going well. Thanks so much for all the help!!!
Thank You! I have her separated and her poop looks fairly normal so I don't think it is coccidiosis. She did start running a fever though (hot head and beak) so i went ahead and gave her the Tylan. I will check her crop tonight and in the morning. I gave her an egg and she ate about half...
I see a lot of people saying they use DE in the coop. I know with people that if you inhale dry DE you can really mess up your lungs. The powder cuts up your lungs inside. Can this happen to chickens too?
By the way. I am a new member but have followed you all the past year. I love this site and the people who post. You are all very helpful and polite. Thanks for being that way!!!
Hi all, I will give you as much info as I have in brief. I have a yr old white EE who is a great layer. She is a bit on the thin side, but has been since the beginning because she is streamlined to never be caught! I have never seen such a fast chicken!!! Anyway, she is dozing all day and...
