Hey all!
Would anyone be interested in 7 week old Coturnix quail? I have 6 females and 4 males. They just started laying this week and I'm getting about two a day. I was just offered a job on Mackinac Island for the summer and cannot take them with me. Super cheap! I'm in the Macomb area, so I...
Does anyone recommend a good pair of kitchen shears/scissors that they use when they process their quail? I have a cheap dollar store pair of kitchen scissors now, but I want to make sure I get a good quality pair that will do it's job without causing suffering.
I'm having the same issue. I'm probably going to cull my roos at 6 weeks instead of waiting for 8 weeks. I tried to partition their coop to separate them, but the males found a way to somehow get to the other side. Covering up their cage at night doesn't help much either.
Thank you for the help! I will try to move them to a darker area. Will they be able to smell the females? Could I just partition the hutch they're in now or do I need to move them further away?
My males are just under 5 weeks old right now, inside my basement, and crowing even through the night. My roommates are starting to get a little frustrated with my new endeavor. I know they are fully grown to be processed by 8 weeks, but how large of a weight difference is there between 5 and 8...
Hey all!

I just hatched my first batch of quail on March 16th and I also had a chick that walked on the front of his "ankle" joint (I guess technically the analogous body part would be the knee) and after two weeks, he corrected himself. He is still smaller than the rest of the batch, but I'm wondering...
I'm wondering the same thing. I have a white light on them and it's been on for 48 hours so far. I also put a little bit of apple cider vinegar "with mother" in their water and they seem to like it. Be sure to grind up the crumbles very small so the chicks can eat it.
Congrats on the hatch...
Hey everyone!
I'm new here and this is my first hatch. I currently have 30 quail eggs in a homemade incubator and they are set to go on lockdown tomorrow. I won't be around for most of the day, so I was wondering if I could start their lockdown a day early to make sure I can get the humidity up...
