The hen could simply have been old, & the stress of the rooster weight on her cold have caused her heart to give out. I’ve had that happen a few times over the years. Sometimes the rooster just stands on the hen without getting off right away & the hen is in deep stress below him.
I have never found baytril effective for a respiratory condition in poultry or some other species either. I’ve found it to be a very poor antibiotic. Tetracycline is much more effective, especially the injectable given by a vet.

Some medications are meant only for intramuscular, others are subcutaneous only. The two methods should not be mixed or interchanged. Always ask your vet which method is required for the drug you are using.
