I had a large fancy coop at my old house, with sliding door I had to get in my hands and knees to clean. New house, new opportunity. I have cinder blocks, 2x4s, plywood, metal roofing. And looking to contruct the coop with absolute easiest to clean and fill food/water as possbile.
My thought...
I bought 4 chicks in April, they were all born April 5th 2016. I purposely got 4 different breeds which I believe are:
- speckled sussex
- gold laced wyandotte
- ameraucana
- isa brown
I've been getting eggs now for past two months, and only have three colors of eggs. How do I know that...
I'm new to raising hens and have 4 healthy hens born on May 1st. I now feed them layer feed and fresh water each day. Most days I also give them treats of either bread crumbs or egg yokes. The neighbors mentions to me they were noisy and I didn't believe it until I had my windows open last...
I'm not sure on breed, just your basic chick hens (I guess I should research that). I would prefer hens that I can let out and will come back home. Thinking 4 hens is a good number. I also could put chicken wire around the coop about 10' x 10' to let them roam around in if that's a good idea.
I'm new to raising chickens in my backyard, and have found two coops on craigslist which appear to fit my needs. I'm looking for the following:
- small-mid size
- easy for maintenance
- ability to heat in winter (I'm in MN)
- ability to let the chickens out and play in the yard
- easy to move...
