I see excellent pictures of Ameraucanas here many times. I am wondering why some of them have a very fluffy beard down most of their neck and some of them have long draping feathering with very little fluffiness.
Which bird is correct for the breed? Both?
I have about 10-15 Coturnix Quail Roosters and I don't need them. They will be big, about 10 to 12 ounces. You can feed them and plump the up or you can introduce them to your flock to increase size of the bird and the eggs.

I'm married, my wife has been home for 31 years, and she works ten times harder than I do every day and continues to work after I return home from work.
I was just waiting for the truck load of PM's to hit me, didn't take long at all... Experiment complete, you can stop now.
Because the women are always sitting at home with nothing to do while the Men are working hard to pay the bills. We just do not have the time to play all day!!!
I live in Central Florida and YES the heat is making a big difference here. My temps have been in the 80's most nights, I wake up to 80+ degrees at 7am. Today at 10am it was 90 with a heat index of 99 and it getting hotter. My hens have nearly stopped laying since the start of this heat wave. In...
I have two Roosters, each has his own pen of hens. The Barnevelder crows every morning about 5:30-6:00am for 20 minutes. In the other pen I have an Ameraucana Rooster, about 5 months old, that hasn't made a sound. The Rooster before him was a Delaware that started crowing at 2 months and really...
Okay, I will use a handful of sunflower seeds, non-salted black oily seeds, in straight gamebird feed. I'll get the "M'" word supplement and still keep up the protein with the 30% in the gamebird feed.
I will keep this going until I see some sort of egg laying start again, they are not laying...
I have one coop of 8 hens that have been in moult for about 2 weeks now. I always put fresh fruit in their runs every morning (1/2 cantalope / watermellon...) because of the heat and they like it. But I have read that fruit is not a good thing during moulting, so I have stopped.
I started...
All of my Coturnix Quail eggs have a very strong inner membrane. You will need to practice breaking them to get good at it and then your success rate of getting a clean break will be around 70%. I now break my quail eggs over the frying pan and fry myself about 3-4 and they are delicious.
We...
I have left chickens in the incubator for 12 hours after they hatch and they are fine. How long can Coturnix quail stay in the incubator after hatching before they suffer from thirst or starvation. I like to leave my birds in the incubator until I do not see any piping or zipped eggs and then I...
I think the seeds of most melons are good for your chickens. I give my chickens my pumpkins after the fall and they eat all of the seeds first and then the melon down to a paper-thin shell. They are as healthy as ever and love the entire melon. I am giving my morning melons right now to the...
Are you south or north of Ocala? If you are south, then I will take the oldest one and pick it up this coming holiday weekend, on Saturday, as early in the morning as I possibly can. Can you tell me, or post a picture of the egg color?
I have a few Ameraucanas and I am working on both egg...
Roosters sound like a wabler or song bird and crow at any time. You dont need a rooster unless you are going to breed them. You can get eggs from your quail for at least 1 year without needing to replace any birds.
Very little work when compared to taking care of chickens. I highly recommend...
