Waiting on sexing silkies is agony!

I am almost positive that I can already tell that one is a hen...she just looks so fluffy and girly. It is so hard to tell with the others. I have six sons...so my odds suck! lol

Waiting on sexing silkies is agony!

I have six 6-8 week silkies and showgirls. I am ridiculously attached to all of them. I can't keep roosters where we live. The suspense is killing me as I want them all to be hens so that I don't have to give away one of my babies. This is sooooo hard!

    Raccoon proofing

I am trying to reinforce my coop before my chicks are big enough to go in it. I am terrified about raccoons getting my babies. What has worked in the past for you all? Should I bury wire around coop? Can I make a wire floor ( attach wire to base of coop) and then just cover it with sand? My...

So We got our Peeps Home...Ideas for things to do...

I hear ya. My chicks are about 3 - 4 weeks old and they are getting more "playful." I just started them on chic grit so that maybe I can give them chick treats. As for when I can take them out in the grass and play, I am unsure.

how do I get my hens to lay eggs in the nesting boxes

This was helpful for me to read. We have been feeding a stray chicken for months. She comes to the porch every morning and runs towards me when she hears my voice. A few weeks ago I made a nesting box out of a bin and hay. I put it on the porch and it sat unused for weeks. Then one day she...

My silkie sets on her eggs some time and then she moves them in front of her,the eggs are ready to h

My friend just hatched my silkie chicks. It took a lot longer than the usual 21 days, she said because of the cold weather we had. Some of them didn't make it, but the two babies in my avatar did and they are precious!!!! I have no idea about hatching, just that she said it could take longer...

    Alternatives to wood shavings?

I am allergic to hay. I really want easy clean up, so I am thinking sand. I really want to use sand as bedding for the coop and run, but I think I read too much! I am now not sure what kind to put down. Straight from the beach sand, play sand, river sand, construction sand, washed sand? I...
