    I too recently had a hawks take some out of my flock. Sorry to hear about yours. I just purchased a great Pyrenees dog. They are breed for livestock protection and hate hawks they will be a loving pet are great with children kind of a gentle giant. Hope that helps

    Turn on its back and open the chest feathers gently and look for a beard stub it will be their as early as six weeks. No more trying to figure it out.

    If you know what your looking for you can find the start of the beard at 6 weeks. Hens won't have it but a young Tom will. You'll have to move some feathers around on the chest.
