Belgian Cuckoo Malines - Next Generation

So here are some of the best Malines of my next generation, 2014 hatched at around 7 months. Very pleased with these birds!

    Belgian Malines Have Arrived!!!

Hens promiscuous? LOL! What would be your description of the roosters then? All kidding aside, I agree working with multiple roosters is much preferred. I never liked working with trio's and quads anyway. Back in Europe each and every poultry enthusiast I know practices flock breeding. I will...

    Belgian Malines Have Arrived!!!

Well I am glad I convinced you. Not that I really had that as a goal, I merely wanted to put some different thoughts out there. Too bad about your recent losses. I know it's part of life in the country but it's always miserable to deal with. Hope you got plenty of breeder boys left though.

    Belgian Malines Have Arrived!!!

Malines roosters are fine together as long as they have been growing up together. And I have been successful putting two roosters together given there is enough hens for them. They will work it out usually. Right now I have 4 almost 6 month old roosters in one coop and it is very harmonious. I...

    Belgian Malines Have Arrived!!!

Hi Old Chick, I wasn't offended or concerned. I just wanted to share my view and experience with this breed. Plus: There are so many people who think that rare breeds per definition have small gene pools which is not necessarily the case. That's why I shared my thoughts on the matter. I am...

    Belgian Malines Have Arrived!!!

My line of Coucou Malines (the birds that Shelley has been raising this year) is not prone to this. Honestly - as I have told Shelley too - this is the first example I have heard of. My line is built upon several lines and I practice flock/group breeding to avoid a small gene pool. Of course it...

    Belgian Malines Have Arrived!!!

Keep up with those pics Shelley! I love them. You have some great birds in there. Actually the Malines were used to create the Bielefelders, not the other way around. Bielefelder is a much younger breed than the Coucou de Malines is.

    Large Fowl Crele Project...

Very funny, I just found this pic of my Malines rooster here. This guy is close to 15 lbs. Comparing to a Cuckoo Marans is maybe understandable judging just from the picture. In reality Malines dwarf that breed. I once bought a Marans rooster to breed in some new blood. He physically wasn't...

    Hi from Penetanguishene Ontario

Hi Guys, I am not a new member, but it's been a while. So I thought an introduction could be in order. I am a Dutch immigrant, long-time poultry enthusiast. I breed Black Copper Marans (European blood line) and a rare Belgian heavy breed called Malines fowl. Both breeds are despribed on my...

How many eggs can a rooster fertilize in one breeding?

Thanks Illia and crtrlovr. Just what I needed to know. I will be collecting for another week then. Maximum output is required now! There are some 30 eggs in there already doing very well. First batch will hopefully hatch next week. Bart

How many eggs can a rooster fertilize in one breeding?

Hi, This past week has been interesting. I have a rare breed here from Belgium called Malines fowl, big easy birds. Now last week my one and only rooster died. I had some eggs in the incubator and was planning on some more later this year, but due to the circumstances I'm filling the bator up...
