Our first ever day old chicks arrived and are settling in nicely, however, I mistook one having stool stuck to her down for what I believe was her umbilical site. It began to bleed a little, and I’d just like some reassurance/little advice if I should be more concerned with this. Seems to be...
Just to let those of you who helped me know, this one hen of ours made it almost 2 additional weeks. She did start to improve- demeanor, color and even drinking on her own and wanting to mingle with the flock, but a bad weather day set her back and she couldn’t bounce back. I truly think...
So this evening our gal seems to have some improvement- I wasn’t super hopeful, but I’ll take it!
Coloring and stance is better- the waddle is less pronounced. Her comb color was much better this morning- several shades brighter and also not looking as sleepy. She rested laying down a lot today...
I actually have activated charcoal on hand as well as a calcium- magnesium citrate, but the capsules/pill are quite large. Can chickens swallow something that large? 😳😁
Still cannot feel an egg, but she expressed liquid stool like this when I removed my finger (went in just over two knuckles of my index finger). It does smell off- a little more pungent than usual- if this is what “acrid” would smell like.
I tried to take an image of her vent- sorry for...
It’s been a couple days since I’ve seen her eggs in the boxes.
The stool was very watery and green and white- I’ll post a pic from what it looked like yesterday- it’s sat overnight, though.
The swelling is definitely between and behind her legs. Her stance and walk is widened and duck like.

My egger gal was not herself this morning…
1. She is an egger of sorts- going on 2 years and pretty stout-...
Good morning from the East Coast, USA. I’m coming into this thread with a similar chicken issue- I will gladly post some pictures if you are still able to read this thread!!!
Thank you for the info!
She is about a year and a half or just about to be that, so not that old. She’s always been the smallest of the group, but she’s just a lot smaller now than when we got her in May.
Unfortunately I do not know for sure when she last laid.
We thought she might be broody...
Hi all-
I have a Black Australorp who has been acting very odd- likely sickly. Looking back she has lost weight the last week, and she’s been in the nesting bucket overnights. Poop has been green and watery- even seems like some undigested feed in it. (It’s a non-gmo layer blend- not a crumble...
