2 broodies hatched out chicks and are fighting - now what???

I'm so glad to hear your chicks did well with no more rat trouble! As for mine, all the chicks and mamas are in the main coop together now. Once the chicks got to be around 5 weeks old or so, we let them out with the rest of the chickens. Because they had been in the enclosed run with the...

2 broodies hatched out chicks and are fighting - now what???

Oh, I'm sorry to hear about your chicks! I hope the rest are safe and growing well! (my computer's been down, so I just saw this) Mine are all still in the protected run area, but I'll let the bigger ones (4 1/2 weeks) out with their mama tomorrow while I'm around to check up on them. The...

2 broodies hatched out chicks and are fighting - now what???

Thank you so much for all the info! We do free range our flock, but the enclosed run is where I was putting them to let the chicks grow for a couple of weeks. We have a big coop - a 10 x 12 shed. We also have 2 "baby" coops (4 x 5 ft) inside the enclosed run, which is apx 30 x 30 ft. with...

2 broodies hatched out chicks and are fighting - now what???

Thanks for the reply! We thought of giving them to one hen, but I thought that would be cruel to the other. Can't imagine she would go willingly. How would that work, and would she recover? How about the chicks? They know who they belong to.

2 broodies hatched out chicks and are fighting - now what???

Hi All! We got lucky this spring and had 2 hens go broody. I tried to set them up in a little coop with 2 separate nesting boxes, but 1 hen wouldn't have it. So she ended up in a separate broody area in the main coop. Now they've both hatched out their eggs about a week apart - 1 with 5...

My rooster is killing a hen!

Thank you Chicmom, Ridgerunner, and Missypebble! The hen lives! (FYI: She's a Jersey Giant, a little over a year old. The young roo is an Ameraucana.) Her eyes are swollen shut, but she was on her feet when I checked on her. I have her in the "baby coop" by herself with food and water...

My rooster is killing a hen!

HI Friends, I'm new here and have an emergency. Last night, I found one of my hens with some injuries on her head. A little blood and her eye looked injured. I put them all to "bed" in the coop, figuring she would feel better in the morning and I'd be able to check her out in the daylight...
