Of course I remember you you are my inspiration for this post. As you can see the pet chicken people at least equal the food chicken people. Ill never understand the pet side but to each their own

That sure sounds like trying to start an argument, or tell people that they are wrong or silly...
Pat
That wasn't my intent. I stated my opinion - I am of the camp that dosen't understand the camp that thinks chickens are on the same level as other pets (such as dogs). The intent...

We used Meyer last year and they were at least 19 for 20 - all hens. My only complaint is that shipment took three days and one didn't make the trip. You can also find people on craigslist that sell birds that are about to start laying. They cost more but you know what you are...
Are your chickens pets or food? I feel chickens lay food and are food. It seems like many here not only view them as pets, but let them live in their house or think they have human like feelings.
Some thoughts I have: if you keep them as pets and dont eat your own chickens do you buy...

It has not been my intent to treat anyone as uneducated. Nor did I say your house was dirty. If you mop twice a day you mop about 14 times more per week than me or 90% of people. Your strong opinion is that you kiss chickens. My strong opinion is that I dont kiss animals that walk...

Wow! Well that's really gonna stink for the little girl in the avatar when she falls and scrapes a knee and you won't kiss it because it's "like kissing the ground"
So sad.
Yes...I kiss my chickens, dogs, cats, ducks and kids. I even kiss hubby after he comes home from work smelling...

They will some eggs as long as you keep them. The longer you keep them the less they will lay (after 2-3 years that is). There is no old hen resuce organization - that is silly. Maybe you should have thought of this before you got chickens as a "pets". Chikens lay food and are food...
Okay all you chicken kissers, kissing an animal is the same as getting on your hands and knees and kissing their bedding. Go ahead and do that, if you still feel the same about it feel free to keep smacking your lips on poop. Nasty. Just Nasty.

I've been waiting for "the lecture." No one before felt the need to assume that we weren't looking for the perfect dog at the shelter. Every morning we look at the online descriptions of the dogs at the pound and once we headed down there to meet a dog we though might work - a two...
I scanned every page of this post and I am ashamed to say Im the first to mention this; go to your local shelter and adopt a dog.
That said, all our dogs have been good with the kids and birds. The best is our current beagle mix. However, beagles do run all day and bark for most of it. When...
Sounds like we live in the same part of the world (I'm outside of Camden). We have a 8'X14' shed with no covered run for 17 ladies and they are more than happy. I'd say the 4 sq. ft. per bird is a good rule, but I think you can squeeze a few more birds in if you have a small flock (less than...
