"Spruce the Coop" yay or nay?

I’ve used it and liked it. Smells like a calming cup of tea, lol. I just sprinkled a little around the coop & nest boxes. The girls didn’t complain. I would probably buy it again if it wasn’t so pricey.

    Stuck egg, light green/yellow poop

I walked her to the coop last night. She was able to jump up to the roost by herself but the other girls were a little too interested in what was going on with her vent & were picking at it. So I ended up putting her in a dog kennel in the garage for the night. She’s still there now and made it...

    Stuck egg, light green/yellow poop

She’s still in the same spot. There seems to be more pale yellow/white & some clear discharge. She’s still puffed up with her neck kind of tucked in. It’s almost time to roost. If she doesn’t make the move to go back to the coop on her own, should I just pick her up & put her on the roost?

    Stuck egg, light green/yellow poop

She is still leaking some white/yellow discharge/poop from her vent. I crushed a calcium tablet, mixed it with about a tablespoon of yogurt in a syringe and squirted it down her beak. Her vent doesn’t seem to be pulsating really fast but I can definitely see her contracting some. I guess I just...

    Stuck egg, light green/yellow poop

Hi, My girl Sunny has a stuck egg I think. I noticed just this morning that she was acting strange, more standoffish. Then I saw some light yellowish white green poop or discharge coming from her vent. She is walking around but definitely not herself. She is a little over a year old ISA brown...

    Stupid Nor’easter

So we are getting a ton of rain right now plus it is cold (35F) and windy. My girls are not amused. They are hanging out under their coop instead of in it. Does anyone else’s chickens only go in their coop to lay and to sleep?

    Unclear hierarchy

My girls’ pecking order is rather subtle too, so not advice from me. Just wanted to say that your girls are very pretty!

Any chicken breeders located in Delaware or the Eastern Shore of Maryland?

I’m in DE as well. While I got my girls at TSC, I will ask around. Might try some of the 4-H clubs.

How do I rescue chickens from slaughterhouses and factories?

Way off the original topic, but, although soy does not contain gluten, most soy sauces do. Just FYI from a gluten free girl. :)

    Possibly eggbound hen

Maybe she was just practicing? :):):)

How do I rescue chickens from slaughterhouses and factories?

As someone who lives in area where chicken houses are everywhere, I can certainly understand & appreciate your desire to help. Driving behind a chicken truck headed to the processing plant is disturbing and recently lead to an educational conversation with my son about the differences in those...

    Possibly eggbound hen

Sorry I didn’t see this until now. How is she this morning?

    Soft eggs for several days

I also only have 2 nest boxes for the 6 hens. I know this should be enough, but I do see some chickens kind of pacing & squawking when the nest box they want to use is occupied. Could this be causing issues? Should I try adding another nest box?

    Soft eggs for several days

I think they are eating the OS, but I am trying to keep a closer eye on who is & who isn’t. I have stop treats other than a small handful of scratch that get for coming home to their run at night. For the calcium citrate with D3, do I just buy tablets? I want to make sure I get the right thing. :)

    Soft eggs for several days

So I have had at least one soft shelled egg in the coop or run every day. I also had not one but 2 egg bound girls last week. A warm bath & a veggie oil butt helped them each lay a soft egg. I feed them Nature’s Best Organic layer pellets & always have oyster shell available. They also free...
