Advice on Aggressive Rooster -- Keeps Going After All Of Us Including Young Kids

I never knew anyone having lard sandwiches but I guess when the alternative is nothing it will keep meat on their bones. Some kids had mayonnaise sandwiches and were glad to have it. But the days we could eat the school lunch were so great. 15 cents would feed you well and always good then in...

Advice on Aggressive Rooster -- Keeps Going After All Of Us Including Young Kids

Yep I remember those colored chicks every Easter even in grocery stores (Weingartens long gone) as a kid. Can you imagine the health risk that posed in grocery stores? People just didn't know then. ..My parents were city folks and never allowed me to have one and we were in the city of Houston...

Should I be feeding Medicated Starter Feed or Non medicated Chick Crumb?

No I don't see why in my case they wouldn't be organic because I just fed it to mine as biddies. I have had times I would run low of reg feed and give it to the others a day or two. But I just made a point to give it to the new hatchlings being they are so vulnerable. But I bet what we had was...

Should I be feeding Medicated Starter Feed or Non medicated Chick Crumb?

I I used to insist on it for new biddies. But over the last year or so, I've been told that its outlawed now and I can't get it. I don't care what anyone else thinks, I've read all about the pros and cons. But I never lost a chick on it but now I can't get it so I don't. I'm in Texas.

I have 2 feral cats and they have been around newly hatched and all aged chickens. They just don't bother the chicks or the hens or roos in fact the chickens will run them away from their catfood. I have to wait till late afternoon when the chickens go in to feed the cats. And these cats will...

    Feral Cats

Well I got the story some how cut off. Long story short I now have 2 ferile cats I trapped and turned in. They actually do all they can to protect my chickens. And they go into panic mode when it's babies. They are not petting kitties or lap kitties but I do pet their heads once in a while.

    Feral Cats

I'm wondering if there are others who look after feral cats and also if there are some people who find them as predators. For years I believed they were predators and back then I bred birds such as budgies and cocktails and some others. A number of times I trapped feral cats and brought them to...

Help! My hen has black nails!

I usually use pine shavings. But considered using mulch because it seems like it could work and is low priced. Straw is too pricey for me. Ok thank you.

Help! My hen has black nails!

It may be natural colors in the mulch. Have you used mulch for a while? I'm thinking of going to mulch this time after cleaning my coop which has dirt floor.

    Chicken hatched with abnormal vent

Ok you others tell me this because I actually don't know. If vent seems clogged and small how about using a clean wet cotton stick (swab) add olive oil and just use it to go around the opening to give some stimulation and maybe chick vent opens up and it begins going. I would also gently dab...
