My Plymouth rock hen I thought was broody I think is actually sick.

thanks for the response Eggcessive. I am trying to calm myself down... We have lost 2 birds this year and had to give away a roo last week so we don't want to lose another.

here is a video of the hen in the nesting box. Not sure how to embed photobucket videos to here... http://vid45.photobucket.com/albums/f61/brungeman/20141230_085323_zpsumjbuy0w.mp4 and her clucking while eating some scrambled egg slurry...

My Plymouth rock hen I thought was broody I think is actually sick.

She spent quite a bit of time in the nesting box and would squak at me and kind of growl a bit. She seems to be a bit weaker after a few days of this behavior. The past week or 2 she had been letting out these squeeks periodically. When I went to check her over this evening I picked her up...

    Do hens even like roos?

Beer Can, yeah, my Wellsummers were the best most friendly of my hens... (I lost one to a hawk) I would not doubt that some breeds are better than others, and then each individual bird has its own personality. Yesterday when I went out there were eggs and my sweet Welsummer was in the nesting box, the roo was...

    Do hens even like roos?

So I was reading the thread about personality and it brought up that question. So I got 3 day old Ameraucana chicks in July and since I am new to them,I am not versed in the nuances of sexing them, and while we have been waiting for blue eggs, I started noticing some changes in my black...

    weird egg formations?

The stress thing could be it too. Last week Saturday (on my birthday) a hawk killed my favorite hen a beautiful Wellsummer who laid beautiful speckled eggs. The whole flock was as traumatized as we we. Because of that, I haven't been free ranging them as much. They are young as well, if my...

    weird egg formations?

Thank you sunflour! This may be a slab sided egg... she laid 2 eggs that day. So by the description, it was from the 2 of them bumping into one another in the pouch.?.

    weird egg formations?

Hello folks, first post...What causes eggs to strange formations? I have an egg from one of my black copper morans that has a strange indentation and shape to it. Is there any reason for concern? Is she stressed or something that caused this? Thank you in advance for your answers!
