I posted this one a couple weeks ago and thought I would put up another picture and get some more opinions. 17 weeks old, no crowing or eggs yet. I do have other roosters so it's possible that if it is male it might not crow.
I've had quite the strange hatch over here with my other clutch of eggs. So initially I had 11 silkie eggs under a large fowl hen. She ate two and then bailed on the remaining 9 on day 9. I convinced my silkie to sit on them and they seemed to be developing well.
In the meantime I acquired a...
I ended up losing the little one. When we went back out to check it and help it out the mama hen was off the nest and it had died in the shell. The abdomen wasn't all the way closed up tho so I think between that and the membrane seeming awfully thick, it didn't have much chance.
I did get 9...
My shipped eggs have been hatching yesterday and today! Most are done but I have one left that has pipped and has a ring of broken shell around like the chick was trying to hatch. I saw pips on it last night at about 9pm though and just now at 12:30 it was still in the shell. The shell has a...
Wait, what's wrong with this breeder? We got a few chicks from him a month ago and was going to order more tomorrow. Can someone share or pm me? I don't wanna buy a bunch more if something is wrong with his operation.
Yeah I know. There's not a lot of hope for these eggs at this point though so I figure I might as well try. My silkie has been acting a bit broody anyways and I have read a few threads of people being able to get a silky to sit with a bit of motivation. I caught my bad broody eating an egg this...
Yeah the comb has me slightly concerned. I'll try and get a better picture of the comb. The dumb chick is so hard to photograph! It's supposed to be a "blue-red americauna" according to the breeder I got it from. It was just an extra with an order of other breeds I had placed. I'm sure it's just...
Can I get some thoughts on this one? The coloring is really throwing me. It's feathers are all mussed up in the second two pictures because I had been holding it. It's about 4-6 weeks or somewhere thereabouts.
So one of my broody hens seems to be thinking about bailing on her eggs. Thankfully her eggs aren't the expensive ones I got in the mail but I had just candled a couple nights ago and all were looking good on day 5. Now one has disappeared and she has been hit and miss with sitting on the...
Yeah I do this too! I have small to medium dog kennels that I use to put broody, nest, food, and water into. They stay in our big barn where the temperature stays more moderate and the other girls can't bother them.
