I too, was absolutely amazed when my pullets did this for the first time last year. Never being exposed to a hawk and not having a "momma hen" to teach them, they automatically knew that hawk was an enemy and ran into their coop and hid under their nest boxes! Amazing!
You might want to run to your nearest Tractor Supply, feed store or somewhere near you and get a trap. Might need that pellet rifle for the next part, though.
Before I got my chickens, I had quite a few bird feeders out back. Birds, squirrels, wild turkey and deer all ate from them. However, so did raccoons. Now that I have chickens I do not want the raccoons anywhere around, so I have moved the bird feeders out front to divert the raccoons.
I have 7 chickens and just moved my PoultryNet fencing to give the girls a fresh grass run. Since last spring they have pretty much scratched up everything in their previous grass run, so now I am seeding it and going to let it re-establish, while they work on scratching up the new run.
GoChick, I lost her when she flew over the fence and wandered off. I hadn't clipped their wings because I wanted them to have the most methods to escape a predator, as possible. However, that worked against me and did not help her.
