We use a premix from ABC biz (VTM) and the recipe provided on their website, with the exception of substituting wheat middlings. The main ingredients come from local farms - toasted soy, corn, and wheat middlings. We adjust the protein content for the time of year by adding more/less toasted...

We hatched about 60 of his chicks (from all hens). Two of them are cuckoo (one French and one without feathers). There is at least one silver black pullet.

Here is one of the cuckoo marans chicks (male). The females have gold leakage at the hackles. I’ll take a photo today.

thank you! It certainly does. Having a better idea of his genotype will definitely help figure out the chicks, too! Some look very wheaten!

I did not. But I did get several other types of marans pullets in the box so I crossed him with the following: wheaten maran, French cuckoo, English cuckoo, and a French black marans.

I don’t see that option in the calculator…

I was also curious which is why I used him to hatch chicks. Now I’ll wait to see if his mixed marans offspring lay a dark egg. The offspring are black with gold leakage and/or very wheaten-like.
