I am dealing with something similar and have been trying to research everything but can't pinpoint anything at this point, i feel bad for the hen i have that can not walk suddenly and she's been like that for 3 days now, and I'm thinking culling would be better....I've tried vitamins, but...

2yr old hen, stumbling like she's drunk.....

Day 3 now and she pretty much has stayed beside this alfalfa bale, she changes position but doesn't come out and it looks like she's broody or nesting on eggs but no eggs....wondering if this is an internal egg laying deal....

2yr old hen, stumbling like she's drunk.....

Ok so I've been reading a lot of threads on here about this, but I'm not finding anything that is entirely relating to what I've got here, most everything I'm reading is issues with chicks...I have a 2yr old hen that suddenly can't walk although she tries she will stumble around like a drunk...

    Help hens toe busted off!!!

Awe sad, weird that it happened now since we are warming up finally but we live in the Pacific Northwest and have had a long cold, snowy winter so it could have happened at any point really, and possibly even recent since I've been letting them out but there's still ice and snow around. Thanks...

    Help hens toe busted off!!!

I noticed one of my hens was holding her foot up and walking a little funny and when I caught her I dicovered her toe is actually almost completely broke off, I have no idea how it happened but the one next to it is pink and has heat in it almost like it's injured or wanting to fall off too...

up to date dose for Ivermectin please !!

Hi, I looked through the threads and I am trying to find dosing instructions for ivermectin, I saw some but the posts were from 2008 and I am looking for current info. I really am looking for dosing info for putting it in their water so the water wormer ratios. I am not really in a position to...

thoughts on pulling the plug on day light, giving hens a break?

I know this to be true with ivermectin as far as biting or latched bugs (we use it to treat horses with LOTS of ticks) I would just be using Wyzine since that is what I have but haven't seen or heard that it could help with lice. In fact i re-read it today and says do not use on poultry who's...

thoughts on pulling the plug on day light, giving hens a break?

this year has been the first time worming has come up for me, never have done it or given it much thought, but I have had some hens get sick and die suddenly, and worming kept coming up as a suggestion or reason, then with them not looking all that healthy it came up again but i still have yet...

thoughts on pulling the plug on day light, giving hens a break?

Being that its so cold and below freezing I am definitely going to get the prymethrin powder instead of the spray, I really don't think my hens would enjoy a wet spray and freezing temps haha. Elector PSP is a pesticide spray for control of mites, lice and other pesticides on animals and...

thoughts on pulling the plug on day light, giving hens a break?

Ooo good to know on the wormer....I have Wayzine liquid but it doesn't say anything about egg layers. Really it just has a withdraw period for meat birds and says not intended for hens who's eggs will be consumed.....so its a bit contradicting cause a lot of people swear its the safe rout and to...

thoughts on pulling the plug on day light, giving hens a break?

Been at battle with the flock for over all health and egg production. I live in Idaho, and winter is hitting, I have 17 laying hens that are about 18mo, a few maybe a little older, and two roos. Last year was their first winter and we did not heat the coop just provided (if I remember right)...

nesting box drama, the struggle is real!

thanks for the reply's :-). Totes are teal color, so they are pretty dark, I'll post some pics soon. They are currently sitting on the floor of the coop with a board in front to keep the straw in which seems to help a little, I also turned them upside down so the wide part is down now to give...

nesting box drama, the struggle is real!

Oh my hens are driving me bonkers!! We remodeled and expanded the coop because the design of the external nesting boxes was not working, with rain and snow around here when you lift the hatch all the water would dump in the nesting boxes making it gross, and eventually growing mold. New design...
