    Pigeon Talk

I can't stop taking pictures of these pigeons. New favorite animal to photograph, right up there with rabbits. :D There's two that are younger than everyone else. In the outside aviary, we found them sitting together on one of the branches. Inside, we're currently keeping them separated because...

    Pigeon Talk

Hello! :frow I finally got myself a starter flock of Capuchine pigeons, and I couldn't be happier. But I am a bit lost on a lot of things to do with, well, raising them. :lau Mostly just pigeon body language, and how to sex them.

    Newbie Pigeon Help

That's what the previous owner said. They fly a lot better than I expected, but I also have seen them fly into the side of the kennel and fall to the ground a couple times. This will be temporary for this year. I'm hoping to turn an older pen we have into a larger aviary to give them...

    Newbie Pigeon Help

Thanks for the help! I brought them in last night and have been putting them outside during the day in an enclosed dog kennel with perches so they can fly around. It's 77° today, and I headed outside to feed this afternoon and a few of them are shivering. :( I'm going to take them in for the...

    Newbie Pigeon Help

In true fashion for our farm, my mother sent me a link to an ad for someone selling out of their pigeons. Having wanted pigeons for so long, and it being a good deal, I decided to call and I mean... there's no point in driving an hour to pick up just a few, right? So I purchased the remaining...

    "Natural" Easter eggs?

I've had this happen randomly, although just one here and there. No idea what causes it for my flock. I sell eggs, so usually toss the offender since I can never wash it off.

    Looking for a bantam... suggestions?

I have a little brother that will be old enough to enter fair in just two short years. As the crazy chicken woman I am, I've been looking for bantam breeds to raise for him and, well, myself. There's so many options, I don't know what to choose. So if I could get suggestions, that would be...

    Adventures on Blue Bandit Farms

Thank you! I actually grew up terrified of roosters after being attacked by so many when I was little, but the Buff Orpington boy in my profile changed my view. :D He's the father and grandfather of my two mixed breed boys! @N F C I haven't had them super long (just since this spring), but I...

    Adventures on Blue Bandit Farms

I figured I might as well write down what we're doing and share it with people that understand. Particularly since recently our farm has hit The Year of the Birds. So hello! I live in Michigan with my boyfriend. We own a small farm with Nigerian Dwarf and Nubian goats, Rex, Mini Rex, and Angora...

    Breed Suggestions?

I actually havean Australorp that went broody. Best mother ever. I didn't know they were sex-linked. I'll probably end up sticking with the Orps, but I wouldn't mind looking into other breeds. I'll definitely check out the Golden Comet!

    Breed Suggestions?

I hope this is the right forum to post this question in! My family and I would like to eventually have our own production flock for eggs and meat. Breed and hatch out chicks, and then raise the roosters for meat and keep the hens for eggs. Maybe sell some hatching eggs or young chicks...

    Hatcheries?

Thanks. :) I'm thinking I will do Meyer since they're the closest to me, so hopefully that would be less stressful on the chicks.

    Hatcheries?

I want to get some Orpingtons this upcoming spring. Preferably something other than buff, or at least a few different ones. :) I will also be looking for some other breeds possibly. And, in the future, perhaps some more ducks. Anyway, I'm looking around for hatcheries. What hatcheries do you...
