We took in hens that were elderly when we got them, knowing that they would not lay much longer. They are tough old girls, and once in a while we get an egg or two from them still. We keep them because they were beloved pets to someone else and are now loved by us. We don't have much room and...
Thank you ALL SO MUCH for being there with advice and help on this situation. The baby chick did unfortunately just die. Apparently this little bird did have its insides outside as a result of a natural aberration in hatch. The other two chicks are chirping away and beginning to eat and are...
Should I remove it from the incubator to allow it to properly dry out in the breeder with the others, or would it be best to keep it in a humid environment? It's still rather damp and I'm unsure whether whatever it's dragging should be kept moist or be allowed to dry out.
My chicken just hatched today, and it appears that it has innards trailing from its butt. It is weak, lethargic, and noticeably smaller than the other obviously healthy chicks. I haven't fed it yet because it and the others are still drying in the incubator, but I believe that it would be unable...

Good luck!
Use the Blu-Kote (get it at feed store), put on latex gloves and spray it on the wound. Key is to keep the wound clean and keep flies and other pests away from the recuperating bird. Don't want infection in a puncture wound and want to avoid maggots (gross, but it can happen.)
If possible...
We have hawks, eagles and rapier predators flying around year round here. Birds of prey are pretty smart and they will only go after prey if they see that they can swoop in, grab and get away. So I put my pens under tree branches and also cover the pens/runs with bird netting. As it...
I only had one rooster that ever attacked me. Then I had another two were lovely boys, but very territorial. They would attack any other human that came in to my backyard, except for me. I had to give one boy away to a local breeder because he attacked my dad and I was afraid he would take...
We've had pet chickens (between 9-12 of them) for years and unfortunately my daughter's mille fleur hen recently died (of old age). She loved that little hen and she is asking Santa for another. But it is December now, and I only want one (or two) hens for Christmas. I have no idea how to...
