Official BYC Poll: How Do You Keep Your Coop Smelling Fresh?

We basically keep our hens in a chicken tractor and move it as needed. It keeps things fresh without scooping bedding and adds fertilizer to the fields. In the winter they stay in one spot and get a deep litter bedding and then we move the coop in the spring to a new location.

    Chicken foot help

I recently got a two year old rooster from someone in the city. He seemed healthy friendly and was just missing a few toes from a past injury. The rooster is currently limping on his feet and holding his foot up. His feet and toes seem swollen and he just stands around in the snow all day. The...

    What breed is this?

This is Esther. I thought she was an easter egger but she doesn't look like my EE. She's very pretty with a large come and white cheeks, yellow legs, and on the smaller side. I'm pretty sure she is laying tiny white legs.

Make sure the coop has appropriate airflow and isn't too stuffy and remove the roosts until they learn to roost inside. Also do you have enough roosting space...

Help we cracked an egg and it was black?!

I gave my friend some eggs and she went to cook them and one was black inside. She threw it away so I don't know if it was yolk, white, or both, but I've never heard of it. The egg was one of my blue ones from my easter egger. That was the only egg like it and all the others have been fine...

    Crazy hen attacking me?

Wow none of my girls have been this bad, but I have one that is trying to take me on. She is at the same age, very close to laying but not quite ready yet. She puffed herself up once and really came at me. I had on a long dress so I kicked her and pulled the skirt out to "puff" myself up and...
