hahaha, Actually, this was my post! A family came last night around 7:30 bearing TWO apple pies too! They were delicious and firm, none of that half pie half soup stuff that I usually make. mmm!!!
Bartering is still alive and well
And just to make everyone jealous...
I had Iggy, my white silkie rooster in Petsmart once last year. We were shopping for a bird harness so that we could take him camping with us and not worry about him running away. Worked out great!
Hey Michigan Chicken Folks!
I am not on this board as often as I should be. I am always away for a bit and then come back and realize all the nice people I've been missing. Anyhow! I need some help!
Over the course of two days last week I lost 7 pullets/hens. I knew it was a weasel (bodies...
Ok, so I ordered a bunch of coturnix eggs and have them in the bator. In a little over 2 weeks they will be into the brooder! .
My outdoor pen that they will go into is about 16' x 20' and encosled with 1inch chicken wire. How long will they ahve to be in the brooder before I can put them...

I completely agree that you should "Go for it!" however I disagree about the broody. My hatch rate is SIGNIFICANTLY higher with my incubator than it ever is with a broody hen.
So I bought this goats mother already bred, she is a boer and I was told she was bred to a boer. However, looking at her kid, it is obvious that this is not the case. The blue eyes and "sticky-up" ears kind of give it away
Anyway! Here is the newest addition to my goat family, Emma!

I have a chick (6 weeks) that has a slipped tendon. I have tried to pop it back into place however the attempts have been unsucessful.
I am left with 2 options, cull the bird, or attempt to open the joint, replace the tendon, and stitch it back up.

Ok! Report!
The Williamston Auction was small, but it was enjoyable. Not to mention the animals and hay we going for very cheap prices. 12 rabbits (about half grown) went for 1$ a piece (they were auction in pairs, male and female). A few full grown pekin and mallard ducks were going for $4...
Yes, Thank you for the great time Lori, it was a lot of fun and the food and company was great. Derek, I gotta say Iggy (the new name for your silkie rooster) is a great bird. He seems to get more gentle and calm each day. He no longer runs from us when we try to pick him up . Also, funny...
I am pretty sure I'll be coming, might bring a friend along too so the ride won't be so lonely . I am coming from the Midland/Bay City/Saginaw area and if anyone wants to carpool, let me know! Gas it just too darn pricey these days.
Also, could we get a specific time and address please?
Hi all! I have been thinking about getting myself some goats recently and have been trying to do some research on the subject. But research can only take someone so far, and sometimes its best just to talk to an expert or two (all you guys reading this ).
Anyhow, If I wanted to get goats...
I'm not really very happy with either style waterer. I started out with a 5 gallon plastic waterer with the black handle on top. It leaked all over the place and could never hold a seal, even after getting a new O-ring. I eventually took it back and replaced it with a 5 gallon galvinized one...
