Good Morning Everyone!
I have 2 young Barred Rock roo's 4 months old. The bigger one started crowing so we figured, at the time, that the much smaller one was a female. We named the big one Rocky and the small one Pebbles. Then, Pebbles started crowing. Rocky is still quite big. Pebbles is...
You know, it was my young Roo's fault. He led the girls over to them. Ugh! They may not be free-ranging all that much longer... at least in the front yard.
Thanks much all!
Good Morning All,
I've had chickens now for 6 years. Not once have they had issues eating the hostas that border my driveway by the house. My approx. 4 month old chicks of various breeds are trotting to the hostas every morning within 10 minutes of my letting them free-range. My poor hostas...
Fuzzbutts, I saw this thread under 'recent', saw it was you and had to check it out. LOL, you guys are too funny. I have 3 Pekin ducks, love them, and they don't wear diapers. They are in the coop I'm busy trying protect and catch a raccoon by.
I COULDN'T WAIT!! I'm not messing around with this. I just set a really large live trap with peanut butter and marshmallows! I'll keep you posted!! Hopefully we get something more exciting than a barn cat.
AGAIN, THANK YOU ALL!!
Yes! I will definitely put out a live trap tomorrow! Another great idea! The coop itself is secure and is locked at night, but now I'm thinking of putting another lock on the door. We've been here a bit over 6 years and have never had issues besides hawks (and one questionable kill by an...
No blood at all, just feathers everywhere. Body didn't seem damaged at all. I thought it was very weird at the time. Perfect body, just bones for a neck and no head. She was heavy when we moved her so organs were still in there. I'm tempted to put up a trail cam.
Thank you for your thoughts! Chicken shepard... great! I'm just concerned now that you guys mentioned the predator coming back. Ugh! My poor little cuties...
Great idea! I didn't notice tracks but can check again in the morning. The snow is pretty melty after a warmer day here. A lot of grass is showing. Welding on top of the dog run is a really smart thought.
Thank you everyone for all your feedback! This is very helpful!
It gets dark about 4:45. By then everyone has gone back in the coop. I was also thinking raccoon but wasn't sure if one would come that close to the house. And you guys reminded me that a couple years ago we saw mink/weasel on 2 occasions. Coop is completely secure as long as it's closed...
Hi Everyone,
One of our beautiful Buff Orpingtons was killed today. Not sure what time, but before 5:30 tonite... I'm guessing she was dead maybe an hour or 2? (stiff body), so good chance it was still light out. I found her between the walkway to our patio and the house, and about 4 feet...
Thanks everyone! I'm very grateful for all of your input! If anything else comes up, I'll let you know otherwise I'll just update in a few days. Thanks you!!! :)
