Realsis, you were right. I can feel the end of an egg in the channel. I greased it as far as I could reach with VPJ and put her back in the cage with a heating pad and towel. Hopefully she"l pas it tonight.
Today I noticed her lower abdomen was bloted. I picked her up and felt the area and it was soft and mushy feeling. Ir was getting dark so I broght her in the garge and put a heating pad and towel for her to sit on. I'll have to do another procedure on her to see if anything comes out.
I dint feel broken shells, but just how far can a finger go, eh? II keep antibiotics, but no calcium, except oyster shell. I'll keep a close watch on her behavior, Thanks.
No lumps or fullness in her abdomen. Her crop is full, but she has stopped laying. I seperated her from the flock and have had no eggs in three days. Very strange.
I have a wheaten araucana doing the duck walk. Felt her abdomen, and did further research with VPJ and latex gloves but didn't feel anything in either channel. She acts normal except for the walk and comes running with the others when I call. Thanks in advance for any help. She just started the...
Let me know if I'm not in the right place, but I'm interested in connecting with like minded chicken lovers in my area to rescue "spent" battery hens. Maybe you can send me to the right forum. I know that a small grassroots group in the UK, Little Hen Rescue" was instrumental in getting the...
I have her on vitamins and antibiotics. Yesterday I took thr cord off where I had her legs tied together, and she sits with her legs under her, not splayed out in both directions, and she seems to be trying to stand. I'm not giving her up yet!
Thanks for your information. I'm afraid my hen may have Mareks. We had another hen that produces similar sympoms but only lived two days. Guess I better keep a vigilant eye on the rest of my flock. I only have 8 total.
Thanx. I will post a pic as soon as I find our camera. Her left leg goes straight out behind her, bur the right leg goes out front. On both feet the toes are curled under. She seemed fine until about a week ago.
Does anyone have experience with splay leg in grown hens? I have a golden comet, about 7 months old that just started showing symptoms of splay leg. She's eating and drinking, but can't walk. Thanks for any advice.
The CDs do help a lot. Not onle to the flases disturp the haws, bur it brings crows close around, whick also disturbs the hawks. I also have an owl decoy with a bobble head. haven't had any hawk problems since doing these things.
Good luck!
