I have browsed through and didn't see this in the random pages that I looked at. I am using Win7 64 bit with IE8 and have found the new layout is preventing me from using my browser's back button. Every time that I navigate to a new post it seems to load a bunch of googleads and when I hit the...

Are we done yet?
Orpington Palace
We designed our chicken coop with future in mind. We wanted it to be able to work as a shed if we should ever move or give up chickens, as a result I get to hear about how expensive and overdone the floor and supports are. I searched through probably hundreds of coops online and...
If you are only referring to Buff's then my experience has been that they tend to go broody. I currently have 2 that are broody and have been for about 2 months. I have also had Blue Orpingtons and think that I only had one go broody for a few weeks. The Blues also seem to be a beefier stock and...
It really depends on what you are referring to. There are violet laced orpingtons, don't know of any in the US at this time. They are a blue laced silver. Lavendar is a solid colored bird that many are working with to improve the type and coloration.
Our Blues don't go broody as often as the Buffs. The buff hens are somewhat more approachable than the blue hens, not that they are flighty. They just don't run over and fight to get on your lap. I live in the mountains so I don't have to deal with the heat for as long as others. I can tell you...
I wanted to get some input on my most recent hatch of chicks. I am quickly running out of room to work on my project of making a Laced Orpington with Black or Blue lacing. I need input from some others with insight as to the final pattern derived from the initial chick patterns. I am thinking of...

I thought that the Coronation Columbian would be a lavendar gene like Coronation Sussex. Is the gene matching different in Continental Europe? Just wondering as I know that the Partridge Wyandottes have somewhat different gene matchings between the US, UK and Europe. I am constantly...
I have had a couple of chickens pass gas. We wouldn't have normally noticed it but we had just washed them and in the process of drying them off you could really hear it. My wife and I stared at each other when it first happened before we realized that it was the bird. You should have seen the...
We get ours at a Fifth Season Gardening Co in Asheville. There's different locations of that store around, check for local organic garden supply and/or feed stores. There's also someone towards Charlotte that carries it and they will ship also.
Good Luck.
Bill
It really depends on your preference and desires. Other Orp varieties would work. Do you want color and variety or purity?
We had a few silkies and the size difference was too much as the silkies started getting torn up after he had worn out their feathering. We have a few Wyandottes mixed with...
You would get single combs. The rose comb is dominant, so one copy of it and they would appear as rose comb. It would make a fun project to cross them with another single comb breed to start working on a laced single comb in another variety.
Or
If you wanted the rose comb then you could get...
I would have to agree with the other two. My blues seem to be more stand offish and evade pick up. After they get in your hands/arms they love to stay. It's almost like they don't want anyone else to know that they like being held.
I agree that it is not as likely that children would be in the woods and be attacked by a bobcat, however, this animal is brave enough to come into a yard in a neighborhood. This is the habitat of children and not normal behavior for the animal as they are supposed to be shy. My wife and I were...
