    Chicken with an eye infection/problem

I've had a good look in her eye, I don't see any worm. I used Safeguard orally and some in her eye just in case. There is no sneezing, nasal discharge. No bad smell that I notice either. There is a bit of an abrasion about her eye, but she keeps itching it so I think it's from her. The...

    Chicken with an eye infection/problem

I've just tried to remove the yellow stuff, but got no-where. I might try again with tweezers, but the poor chuck was pretty miserable. I had started giving her oral VetRX a week ago, it's gotten worse. I wormed her just in case it was eye worm. Any suggestions on the next step to take?

Cat? Oposom? Something else? Day time kill of our 8 Month Barred Rock hen. See PICS.

Agree with other posts, hawk. Carcass looks exactly like our light Brahma that was killed. I witnessed the red tail hawk flying away from her when I went out to check on the chickens. We didn't lose anymore chickens after that, I think we just had a desperate hawk. We have a decent pine and...

    accidentally forgot to close coop

Look around further. A fox will take the chicken, usually pluck it elsewhere before taking it away. Sorry for your loss :(

Any possible way? Cornish Cross chicks vs White Leghorn chicks

OK, so I will just wait a couple of days then. Thank you!

Any possible way? Cornish Cross chicks vs White Leghorn chicks

I got my McMurray order this morning, and everything was mixed. There are 4 Leghorn chicks in here, then 26 Cornish X. I know it will be very obvious in a week or two, but I have a lady who wanted two of the Leghorn chicks. I only realised after I placed the order. They all look the same to me...

URGENT- Rescued dumped chickens, concerned about disease

She is acting pretty OK. Eating, pecking around, I just gave her water, but her eye and head looks awful. I haven't done anything as intervention due to concern about disease; I am researching first.

URGENT- Rescued dumped chickens, concerned about disease

The rescues are in cages under the carport. I keep my chickens to the other side of the property, about 400ft away. I never buy chickens from anywhere other than a hatchery as I am scared about diseases. This is only the second time I have taken chickens in, albeit grudgingly. Makes me sick that...

URGENT- Rescued dumped chickens, concerned about disease

I have no idea about any chicken rescues around here, we are in a very rural area. There were two other pullets that I couldn't catch. We have lots of raccoons around here, so the odds of them surviving is low. I've just been out to check on them, the rooster that was hit by the car has died...

URGENT- Rescued dumped chickens, concerned about disease

I haven't been out to my chickens since catching this one. I washed myself with Dawn, mostly because I was all in poison ivy trying to catch the buggers. The two roosters "look" OK. Obviously the one had been hit by the car isn't too happy. They are both missing tail feathers and are very...

URGENT- Rescued dumped chickens, concerned about disease

3 chickens and 2 roosters were dumped just down the road from us. One of the roosters had been hit by a car, so I tried to catch them. The 2 roosters I caught last night. I just tried again, and caught one of the females. I have over 50 chickens. I don't want to risk any infectious diseases and...

    Laying Hen Diagnosis?

I have done that a few times over the course of the 5 months. Once she was in an isolation tractor with other chickens while she was wormed. A few days after going back to the coop, she was acting them same way.

    Laying Hen Diagnosis?

Past 5 months, she has been acting "broody". Fluffed up, always in the nesting box, but not sat on eggs. She is scrawny, comb is limp and pale. She behaves strangely when I take her out of the nesting box, walks around picking up pine needles and throwing them over her shoulder. I have some...

Adopted unwanted chickens, idea on breed?

I have no idea how old they are, but some are definitely roosters. More than half. Just what I need, more roosters, lol.

Adopted unwanted chickens, idea on breed?

My husband agreed to take in chickens from a coworker, he was fed up of dealing with them. Honestly, I don't like taking in other chickens. I don't like dealing with quarantine and the risk to my flock. They are pretty raggedy, some with feather loss. They weren't fed much other than corn before...
