Yes, I still have them and yes, I'm okay with processing chickens. I've never done it before, but a guy I work with is a 'chicken guru' and he's talked me through the process a couple of times. I'm not squemish, so it shouldn't be a big deal.
I originally built my coop for a dozen and then...
My girls layed their first eggs right under the feeder...
I also keep oyster shell in a seperate feeder and it seems that they don't eat a whole lot of it. I filled it up a month ago and it has barely been touched... It's right next to the regular feeder too...
On aother note, I'm going to be thining my flock down here soon. I have 17 hens and would like to get down to 12. They are now 21 weeks old and are all laying.. If anyone might be interested in buying them, let me know. Otherwise, it's going to be bbq time!
I'm actually in Logan Township. Lucky us, we moved into an area zoned agricultural/residentail and after talking with the code enforcement officer for the township, we found out that the township doesn't give a flying flip about what happens in our neck of the woods....
Yeah, I've been a...
I honestly have no idea about the specifics of my birds. I got them from tractor supply in the 'red pullets' tub. The look like a mix between a buff orpington and a rhode island red.
I believe they are sexlings. I got them from tractor supply and they were marked red pullets. The youngest are only two weeks behind the rest of the flock.
My thought line now is to finish off the bag of grower that I have and then maybe do a 50/50 mix of grower/layer, if not switch outright to layer. Thanks for the input. I'm curious to see what everyone else says as well.
I have 17 hens. The oldest are now 15 weeks. Yesterday I found two eggs in myy nesting boxes. My question is, is it too early to switch over to laying mash? Everything I've read says to stay on grower until 18 weeks.
