    Sand for flooring question

I called several dirt/sand/gravel companies in our area that delivered. The main point you want to get across is that the sand needs to be dry and that you want contractor/construction sand. That is how I got my sand, I change it out every year, putting the old sand in the chickens run. HTH :-)

How to handle chickens while on vacation

I've just read thru some posts by people going on vacation, and for the most part finding someone reliable to check your chickens, get the eggs, refill water & food everyday is the best idea - here is my problem, hope someone can help me with some ideas. 1. I don't have a reliable person to...

    lethargic, & black/weird looking comb

She died last night. On close inspection her vent area was full of fluid, yellowish, -- maybe the egg broke? The 24 hours we had her confined in a rabbit cage, she never pooped. We did see her take a few drinks though. I am not sure what went on, but since we lost one a week ago (to the day) to...

all of a sudden very dark comb, lethargic, wont stand/drink, just laying there

Sorry Daviechik, We lost ours too (last night) after giving her a good looking over we noticed the vent area was full of fluid - not sure if we have the same thing going on but sure looks the same - I don't know if an egg broke inside or what. Again, sorry for your loss. - Lea (DanLeaAnn7)

    lethargic, & black/weird looking comb

Thanks for your reply Daviechik, no, I have not seen any indication that it is mites, but reading thru threads here it seems that it might be - (because she is lethargic) so I dusted this morning in hopes things would get better. Please let me know how your chickens are faring, sure is a weird...

My black made it thru the night, she is still alive but not moving much, we put her in a rabbit cage with hay, water and food, but she is not moving. We dusted her this morning with insecticide dust, and the whole flock too, not sure what to think, I would really appreciate any thoughts. I was...

Hi, I am hoping someone can help with my chickens. We lost one last week (a red) and now I have another sick chicken with te same symptoms . She is very lethargic, and her comb seems to be turning black. She doesn't want to move - I moved her away from the other chickens (to keep her from being...

ready to hang in the towel

Thanks Tracy, and En Plein, I am using food grade DE powder, I dust their coop floor (I am using sand in the coop) about every 2 weeks. I hope the Sevin dust works... It is dry here, but humid, we haven't had rain in a long time. I will give them some cottage cheese, I have 20 chickens. Thanks...

ready to hang in the towel

Thank you all for your help, this is what i have done so far..... dusted the chickens with Sevin dust, and their nesting boxes. Did not see any evidence of mites or lice but not really sure what looks like either. I cleaned out their coop and run. I had been told good quality cat food will help...
