So what we did was I think basically the same. We kept the newest chicks in a caged pen outside with water and food while the older hen was able to see them every day.
After 10 weeks we let them sleep in the same coop. And that worked…
Thank you for all the insight. I appreciate it. I’m surprised it took this long for him to start to crow. Looking forward to being able to gain more knowledge from this forum.
So after 19 weeks, one of our Black Australorp chickens has started to crow. (Past few days.)

New to the site, and decided to join after reading many posts in various searches online.
We have three chickens now. And should get a few more in the spring.
