    Two Jakes?

Thank you for your feedback! Interesting!! She flairs out like a Tom. Is it safe to assume since her snood isn't as long like a Tom that could be an indicator? Because one of mine has it past the beak and the other maybe goes to eye level.

Thank you so much! I wanted to be sure before I posted looking for someone interested in trading a hen for a Tom.

    Two Jakes?

I received these two Royal Palms from a friend. However we are unsure if they are two Jakes or if one is a hen? They both flair out but the one on the left stays in the pose longer. The one in question is the one on the right. I have more pics and a couple videos if needed.

Placing hatchery chicks under a broody?

^ Thank you! SUCCESS!!! Both mommas are doing great with their adoptive babies. It's an amazing thing that these chicks instinctively took to their new mom, since all they knew their first 2 days of life is egg tray, a shipping box and a brooder (just during the day until nightfall when...

Placing hatchery chicks under a broody?

Got my new babies this morning from Ideal. 8 EE Pullets & 2 EE Roos (let's hope they sexed them right ). When it was dark we did the golf ball to chick exchange..lol. Slowly placing a chick under one of the broodies and taking a golf ball away. I divided them between 2 hens, one Sumatra & one...

    **CL Rooster!!**

I had listed 4 EE roosters on CL, at first I tried selling them, no takers. Then I had them as FREE still nothing. I was getting a little desperate since my roo to hen ratio was too high. I even considered putting a sign near our road for them, even if the odds are that they were going to end up...

    How does a hawk....??

This is so frustrating. Do any of you think that a week of my chickens being convined is enough time to have the predator look elsewhere for food?

    How does a hawk....??

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR REPLIES! To be honest our first thought was a bobcat, but when we explained it to our neighbor he felt convinced it was a hawk. So he made us reconsider the culprit since we do have hawks around. He stated that bobcat would cover the remains with straw/grass/leaves. And...

    How does a hawk....??

Well I'm pretty sure I have lost 3 of my chickens to a hawk(s). This happened during the day between 11am - 6pm. Last Saturday my adult EE roo never came home to roost and this past Monday two of my adult hens (an EE & BO) were missing. DH and I went looking and found two very small piles of...

Placing hatchery chicks under a broody?

I'm wondering if I should divide the babies between two broodies. Can one hen take care & keep warm all 10 babies??
