City of Edmond - Violation of code

Please keep us updated. I live in Edmond and know several people with 'illegal' chickens and will be curious how this ends. My experience has been that you try and stay under the radar, but if a neighbor or city employee outs you, there really is no defense. Not sure how far you plan to take...

Chicken moat/run/tunnel/chunnel from collapsable dog pen sections?

FYI - I'm using one of the included panels with a door where the coop connects to the tunnel. This way I can use that door to secure the coop from anything entering from the tunnel at night (keeps me from having to build a lockable door). I will also be using metal stakes to hold the walls in...

Chicken moat/run/tunnel/chunnel from collapsable dog pen sections?

We built our first run/tunnel out of chicken wire and connected it to our small hen house. You can see it here... https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1019121/building-our-first-chicken-tunnel-chunnel-chicken-run It seems to work well. We have 4 hens in it and have had no real issues. What I...

Building our first chicken tunnel/chunnel/chicken run......

Just 4 hens in that coop/run. We ended up putting a second coop/run on the other half of the garden (on either side of the gated entrance) and put 4 more in it.

Building our first chicken tunnel/chunnel/chicken run......

Fortunately my birds caught on quickly and even run to the coop when the sprinklers in the garden come on - so they definitely know where its at. I have a waterer in the tunnel and a bucket nipple waterer hanging in the coop. Luckily there is always some shade in the tunnel and the coop itself...

Building our first chicken tunnel/chunnel/chicken run......

If you look closely where the tunnel connect to the coop I build a spot for a door to slide in an secure the coop from the tunnel at night to protect against determined predators. I also lined the perimeter of the coop itself with buried flagstone to keep predators from digging under the coop.

Building our first chicken tunnel/chunnel/chicken run......

I ended up putting two coops in the garden. Each coop has a run/tunnel that covers 1/2 of the perimeter of the garden.

Building our first chicken tunnel/chunnel/chicken run......

Exactly. The hens will stop invasive grasses/weeds and also eat bugs that would otherwise infest the garden. As winter approaches I will construct a tunnel to the raised beds so they can work the soil in preparation for next year's planting!

Building our first chicken tunnel/chunnel/chicken run......

This year we decided to start a raised bed garden on our lot and have soon realized we needed to construct a fence to protect it from rabbits, deer, and our few free range hens. After getting much of the fence up we decided to relocate one of our coops to the new fence and then construct a...

New urban chicken raisers - Edmond, OK

Thanks. Its still a work in progress. That's our second Sam's Club coop. The first one looks identical but is a dark brown stain. We have it in a slightly wooded area for our free range hens. The one in the pic we bought at Sam's when they were clearing them out for $100 each! Its only a few...

How many chicken tunnels (chunnels) are there?

We've been spending this Labor Day Weekend fencing in our raised bed garden and constructing a chicken tunnel of our own. Can't wait to put some hens in it. The top photo is our progress so far. We've almost passed the coop entrance. The idea is to make the tunnel encircle the entire garden...

New urban chicken raisers - Edmond, OK

Haven't updated in some time and thought I'd share our latest project.... We recently build a raised bed garden on our property (about 2.5 acres in Edmond, near East 15th and I-35). I decided I'd have to fence it in because of the rabbits, deer and our's and our neighbors free range chickens...

Moved coop - How do I get my chickens to go to it at night?

Thanks for the reply. I tried locking them in for a day or so the other day, but within about 30 minutes one of the Turkens started bullying the other Turken and hen and stressing them out. I may try again. These three are the only ones laying regularly right now and the Silkies have never...
