I have 5 chickens. 4 hens and 1 rooster but I have only put the pictures of the first two hens on the web page. I may have posted baby pictures of the others when I had all of them from the brood but I have not posted anything of the 3 that I kept of the original 9. I must correct that...
I hope someone can help. I have chicks that hatched today (my first). Our temps at night are in the 30s and 40s. Do I need to supply heat to the coop to help the hen keep the babies warm?
New egg here. After reading some of the other posts I'm worried about the babies that hatched today. This is the first batch of eggs and I don't know if the coop will stay warm enough for the babies. Our nights are in the 30s and 40s. Do I need to add heat to the coop?
Do I need to do...
HELP. New egg here. This is my first batch of eggs to raise. I have a total of 10 eggs under my bantam hen. They are hatching now. When will they start to eat. I have chick scratch for them. I've put the feeders down within reach. My hens normally free range during the day and get locked...
Sunny Side Up,
Thank you. My brother (source of my previous chicken information) has offered to give me fertile eggs for my girls. I may give it a try. I'm going to take baby steps on this process so I avoid messing anything up or ending up with chickens I am not equipped to take care of. I...
Sunny Side Up,
Very observant of you to ask if the source of the information is a man. Yes. But he claims he read it in a booklet written by a women with 60 years of experience with bantams. Go figure. I just had to ask. I'm at my wits end with my two broody girls. They are family so I...
This is more a question then a reply. I have been told that if I had a rooster my hens would stay "stimulated" and they would not go into a "broody" state of mind after laying for only a month. Now this information is coming from the same source that recommended the breeds I have.
Is there...
Thank you so much for responding to my plea.
1. Raising babies is not an option. (many reasons, space, time, etc)
2. Bigger coop is not an option due to space limits. Major landscaping project would be require for a larger coop. Besides, there are only two of us to use the eggs.
I may have...
Thank you. Not the answer I was hoping for. I may have to find a way to get another hen or two. The girls are fun to have around but the point was to have eggs. My coop is small so I have a problem to solve. 4 hens will really push the limits of space.
Thank you for your help
I hope someone can advise me. The larger of the two chickens in my avatar is starting to get broodie again. She didn't lay all winter because I didn't have the coop set up right to give them the light they needed. She has only been laying again for a month.
Is she going to be in a permanent...
