    Essential oils and chickens

UPDATE!!!! My little Darling is doing incredible!!! I didn't want to over treat and cause just as much trouble, so I stuck with just using my Neem Cream. I got up this morning to take her out of the box and let her perch on a chair.... and to be honest I was expecting her eyes to be sealed...

    Essential oils and chickens

Thank you! I'm all out of frankincense, but I do have the epsom salt. I'll order a new bottle of the Frankincense and get some of that Oregano EO as well.... or would soaking 1/4 a tspn of oregano in roughly 3 tbsp oilive oil work the same? Hmm... I think I'll buy the EO for it to have on hand...

    Essential oils and chickens

I know this is an older thread/topic, but I find myself with a similar problem right now. I have a small Malaysian Bantam (silky hair-feathers only on wings), her eyes became weepy and the clear stuff is sticky which seals her eyes closed when she sleeps. She suddenly has yellowish chunky...

Incubating Mini Silver Appleyard Duck Eggs

I'm debating whether to find a place that has day old ducklings of the breed I want, or to try another hatch. Its hard to find any places though that sell ducklings... so another hatch attempt is what i may have to do to get the breed I want. However if I do it, I will get a larger number of...

Incubating Mini Silver Appleyard Duck Eggs

Today I checked the last egg. I candled it while it sat in its place. I could clearly see the veins were completely gone! So I took the egg out of the box, candled again moving it around so I could see.... and I could see dark blotches in the bottom. The ducky was dead. I opened the egg to...

Incubating Mini Silver Appleyard Duck Eggs

And then there was ONE. :*( Bad news :( My two yr old went into the spare room and took an egg out of my incubator and dropped it. It was irreparable..I'm so sad about my poor little duck :*( Just a few more days to go and it would have been fully developed. As it is, the yolk that absorbs...

Incubating Mini Silver Appleyard Duck Eggs

The new light doesn't work. the body of the light glows when the light is on and makes it impossible to see anything. So I guess I will update with written descriptions :P

Incubating Mini Silver Appleyard Duck Eggs

Well dang it. lol My phone camera just isn't catching the image like I want it to. When I shine my light into the eggs now... Looking at the glowing egg and all the veins networking inside then seeing the shadow of a duckling inside doing its somersaults makes be think... Is that what a world...

Incubating Mini Silver Appleyard Duck Eggs

Ok, so this update kinda sucks. I knew for certain today that one egg had stopped progressing entirely. I noticed it on the 4th day, but I wanted to give it time... just in case. It no longer had any veins and could only candle what looked like a pea sized shadow in the egg. Two eggs still...

Incubating Mini Silver Appleyard Duck Eggs

Hello day 5! The eggs are doing great!!! I candled them all on the 3rd evening, and was so impressed to actually be able to see the little babies in there (well, their hearts beating anyway). So on day 4, I took a video and of it and posted it to Youtube! along with my video on my homemade...

Incubating Mini Silver Appleyard Duck Eggs

Day 1 has gone great. The humidity has maintains stable and not moved from 50% whatsoever! (I'm very impressed as its a cardboard box incubator after all!) The temperature has also stayed true to 102F. It too has not moved. I am entirely pleased with things so far. I gave the eggs their...

Incubating Mini Silver Appleyard Duck Eggs

My three Mini Silver Appleyard Duck Eggs. Due to the light you can't see it very well, but the eggs are a lovely, delicate shade of blue. :) I made the incubator out of a cardboard box. I know alot of people disprove this way of incubating, but its all I've ever had, so I've gotten fairly good...
