    Brooder Question

    Hello there! I was wondering if I could use a 25-35 gallon rubbermaid bin as a starting brooder. I want to keep around 4-5 chicks in it. If this is acceptable, when should I move them to something larger?

    First Time Chick Parents, Spring 2016

    Hi, I'm a first time chicken owner as well! After I move, I'm planning to get around 6 day old chicks. It'll probably be in April or May, but I'm looking forward to it! Hoping that I can get some Orphingtons or Rhode Island Reds. Maybe Barred Rocks? I honestly have no idea yet.

    What Kind of Coop?

    That's what I was noticing about a lot of the coops for sale, is that they look either overpriced or unsuitable for the chickens. =( I'll look into hiring someone, or like CT said, attempting to construct a coop and run from a shed. Thank you guys so much for the help!

    Hello =)

    Hi there, nice to meet you! Thank you so much for your kind words. Everyone on here seems so friendly and supportive. Also, I'll definitely be checking out the Learning Centre. Can't wait until I get to experience some lovable little chicks for myself. Until then, I'll be looking around on BYC...

    What Kind of Coop?

    Hello there! As I've said before, I'm going to begin raising chicks in April or May. They'll probably be Buff Orphingtons. I plan to adopt 3-4 of them. Maybe 5. I'll likely use Rubbermaid tubs for a starting brooder, but what about the coop? I'd prefer that it have a run due to the fact that I...

    First baby chicks! ;D

    Use a red light. Wounds don't show under red light, so the chicks won't peck each other to death. They can be pretty brutal sometimes!

    Feeding Chicks?

    Hi there, I've been searching around for awhile on when to switch chicks from a starter feed. I've found some useful info, but a lot of different sources say a lot of different things. I'll be a first time chicken owner in April or May, so I want to give my chicks the best. When did you guys...

    Hello =)

    Hi there, I'm new to BYC. I actually don't own any chickens yet, but once I move to CA I'll be raising some chicks. I've never done it before, but I've been researching loads of things on how to care for poultry. I've always wanted to have some, so this is like a dream come true! I plan on...
