    What's eating my birds?

Update: nothing in live trap last night. Locked all chickens in the coop so no more damage. We had ice storms yesterday so accessing our game camera that's set up in the forest behind the house was not smart as trees were dropping and branches were snapping. Hubby is getting it today...

    What's eating my birds?

Also, there were tracks in and outside the coop/run. The head portion of the dead duck was detached the second night and some feathers from the head were pulled through the hardware wire so it appears to be more than one critter. One ate from inside and another had arms small enough to reach...

    What's eating my birds?

The duck was eaten over two separate nights. First night the chest and neck were ripped open and eaten but the second night it was licked clean. The first duck that was killed was split open and the head still on.

    What's eating my birds?

I agree with tracks. We had snow last night but then it was freezing rain on top of it so the prints that did show were barely noticeable. Hubby is getting the game cam set up for tonight. I am just surprised that a raccoon would take one at a time and come back and eat half a dead duck...

    Netting for Hawks

That's about the same as mine. Deer fencing worked. I zip tied two together to make it wide enough and attached to the run sides with zip ties. My coop is under a tree so eventually it became tough to manage with leaves, snow, etc.. and we removed it. someone mentioned hardware wire but...

    Netting for Hawks

I've used deer netting in the past. How big is your opening?

    What's eating my birds?

They are locked up in a large fenced area. Fence is 8' tall hardware cloth and buried 12". There is a coop inside the fenced area where most chickens roost at night but my ducks and a couple chickens roost under the coop inside the fenced area. Birds are picked off one Per night and partially...

It really is the coolest looking chick I've seen. When momma hen lets me see her again I will upload a photo. She's a rainbow. Thanks for your help!

Blue Orpington Rooster with a mix of splash, blue, and Americana

I'm curious what I will have. I didn't expect to have two broody hens. Those hens hatched 13 of 14 unexpected blue, splash, black, Americana. I guess my biggest question is what color will my Americana lay? Thank you!

I am so thankful you posted all of this information. Your "aviary" is WONDERFUL. My hubby said I need to "tone it down". We are going to do a very similar coop but built for Oregon. You are such an inspiration and your hubby is a wonderful craftsman. We are doing just a 20'X30' but replicating...

?????Is it Gape Worm or some bronchial problem???????

Nothing like getting back 9 months later. Sorry. I have not been active on BYC for a bit. She recovered great and Threehorses was always my go to in these instances. Never knew what the issue truly was, but the fact is she was better within 2 days.

    Bumblefoot & worms in poo...double whammy :(

Woah! I am really sorry for your situation. I think I would probably treat the worms first and really soon! I would think they cause a more imminent threat to your girls. I saw a really cool post about treating bumblefoot and packing it with terramycin. I would search that and see what...
