I homeschool, so there is no school to donate my time too. This was a homeschool science fair. I understand what you're saying. It was a bad decision.
I did have them in a seat beat in the car.
The other one seems like she's doing better now.
I just wanted to share the experience with the other kids. When a hen hatches her own eggs, she gets off the nest sometimes right? I thought they'd be ok as long as we kept it shut and plugged it in as soon as we got there.
We incubated 12 eggs. 2 hatched yesterday and we took the whole incubator to my son's science fair today. We plugged it in as soon as we got there and 2-3 hrs later one lay down, went to sleep and stopped breathing. One minute they were fine, chirping and crawling all over the over eggs, then...
Thanks everyone. Sorry for being such a newbie.
I love our rooster. His name is Fred. We picked him because he was so pretty.
So what should I expect our chicks to look like? I incubated half white eggs and half brown. So far, I've got these guys(both from the White Leghorn's eggs):
I posted here about what breeds I have. I really have no idea. The 2 above that have hatched are mix between the white hens and my only roo in the last pic.

Thanks! I love writing the blog, it's so much fun.
Ohh, me, me me!!
Supposed to hatch tomorrow, but we've got 2 already out today in our homemade incubator. My son is bringing them to a science fair tomorrow. I hope some decide to wait until tomorrow to hatch.
The white ones all lay white eggs and the brown ones lay brown eggs. I am a complete newbie to chickens.
I've got eggs hatching right now and just got a black chick out of a white egg. I was wondering if any of the fertilized eggs would produce chicks like the rooster. I guess so!
Thanks in...
The Boston Terrier gets 1 chicken leg per day and the bigger one gets either 2 chicken legs or one leg quarter. They also get some eggs and occasionally ground beef or leftover steak as treats.
The Boston Terrier has been eating this way for 3 years and the other since we got him about 6...
Hi everyone!
I've really enjoyed reading the forum and learning so much about chickens. I'm a new chicken keeper and just hatched our first egg yesterday. I have a blog in my signature where I posted lots of pictures of the hatch. There's also pictures of my flock. I have 11 hens and 1...
Thanks for your reply! I was really worried at first, but it seems to be doing fine.
Another question, since only one chick hatched, is there anything special I should do for since it's all by itself?
