I too have my project of egg color, have seen some success but no where near consistent. Also doing this very limited with just reproducing in the range of 6-15 chicks a year. But the breeds I have decided to work with is Ameraucana, Welsummer and white leghorns. The goal is a blue egg with...
I have an incubator with a bad first attempt last year. Getting ready with second attempt this year. I would be an advocate if your incubator lives up to the hype with a third batch to compare to my current incubator.
Evidently my hens have formed a workers union and currently are on production strike. Wanting better living conditions and more black sunflower seeds. They also complained about the roosters not really contributing. I’ve tried talking to them but I’ve gotten no where. Any advice would be...
In Northern Ohio wondering if anyone one else was working for desired egg color. This hen died after laying a few eggs. Blue with green speckles. Blue ameraucana that was black with a welsummer hen. Others in cross laid green eggs. Currently have welsummer roo with 3 ameraucana hens. Just kinda...
I have this pic from a year ago of a young hen that died after laying a few eggs like this. Was just wondering if there is others playing around with this egg color. Im in Northern Ohio and thought it would be good to communicate and work with a few others to consistently get this egg color...
Unfortunately this hen died after laying just a few eggs but was an ameraucana rooster and welsummer hen cross. The other hen lays green eggs but has laid one brown speckled green egg.
Welsummers lay speckled eggs. And freshly laid can wipe or scratch off. You can scratch lines in a regular brown egg when freshly laid. I have had some welsummer/ameraucana crosses. My current hen from this cross lays solid green eggs but has laid one green egg with brown speckles. My first of...
Yeah I almost got into aruacanas, joined an association of breeders. But a little too expensive and such a high death rate for hatching eggs. Also a lot of breeders I found didn’t want to sell eggs. Just focusing on unique egg color at this point along with keeping a line of blue eggs as well.
Yeah I have since looked up the breed and seen that some, anyhow had the spots. I started thinking these were the Isbar. Yeah wouldn’t mind tapping into some of that blood line. Gonna have to do further research on it. Just playing around with the blue and speckles now. Just assumed they would...
