91 in Antioch today! The girls have bee laying well and deserve a cool treat.

I love my neighbors, so I need to find a nice home for the 3 Barred Rock cockerels we raised from chicks.

I'm not that high tech in Antioch, but I know a couple of chicken sitters who will assist if needed. One is here in the East Bay, and one is in the SJ Valley. I have not had occasion to use these services as yet, so I've no idea as to what they charge.

So, we're brand new at this and have 6 baby bantam barred rocks. They are a couple of weeks old and looking forward to finding out if they are guys or gals. What physical features will we begin to see to help us sex them? We've seen a couple of them "sparring" and one brought straw into the coop...

Day two and we still have serenity in our coop. We're keeping mama and babies inside during the day, but we cooped the two hens with them last night.

So far, so good this morning. We took out her high sided nesting box and added some straw to the floor so the babies would have easy access. While we were doing that, some of the chicks found their way into the corner behind the water bottle. Broody foster mom went back and nudged them out of...

We're trying this right now with our broody bantam buff brahma. Her eggs weren't fertile, so we introduced chicks after 3 weeks on the nest. I'm going to have trouble sleeping tonight worrying.

Nothing like chick pics to revive a thread. Here are our 6 new Barred PR bantam babies. I'll get some close ups soon.
