My chicken sang the egg song!

We got our first eggs yesterday and today. Pretty sure it was the same white Plymouth Rock both days, today's was about half the size of yesterday. I heard them sing the egg song for the first time tonight after they went in for the night. I think all 13 hens joined in at the same time, it was...

How cold is too cold to let my girls into the run?

We had a Welsummer chick that was a couple weeks younger than our other chickens. When we went to clean the brooder some of the larger chickens got a bit spooked and knocked the Welsummer head-over heels. She somehow injured her leg and could not walk. It also seemed to be a hip injury, as I...

    Breed and gender?

Hi all. I have what I thought was a Marans when I got them at about 5 days old, but now I'm thinking the boxes wre just labeled wrong. They had puffy cheeks when I got them. I am thinking maybe they are Ameraucanas now. They are about a month to 5 weeks old now, recent pictures last. Any help on...

    Americaunas have feathered toes?

I saw a picture of a blue Langshan today and it literally looked exactly like our bird. Aren't they just as rare/desirable as ameraucanas? I just don't understand why you would call your birds something they are not. I thought the toe feathers were suspect, but it was my first time buying...

I built this brooder for our chicks over Easter weekend. It's great, but now they are itching to have a coop to live in. Thanks for the great idea and pictures!

    Americaunas have feathered toes?

I'd be ok with that, lol. I guess it really doesn't matter anyway. I really like all of my chickens. I was trying to get a good amount of variation in egg color with the layers though.

    Americaunas have feathered toes?

I think the lighting is making the toes look lighter. They are grey. Some of the other ones have darker toes.

    Americaunas have feathered toes?

Well, I guess I won't be seeing any of those blue eggs. They all have feathered feet! At least I know it's a "he", now I can name him. Thanks!

    Americaunas have feathered toes?

I do have Marans, but I got them from the same breeder I got the Ameraucanas from. Maybe it's a mix between the two?

    Americaunas have feathered toes?

This is one of our Americauna chicks. I was wondering if they are true americaunas. I'm not sure that they are supposed to have feathered feet. Is there a good way to sex them at this age?
