I am new at this and these are my first quail. Based on the pics does anyone have a theory on sex of each? They are four weeks old. From what I have read, it sounds like the speckled are female and the plain brown chest is a boy? Thanks so much

Do the dark black feathers on the neck in contrast to the rest of him have anything to do with determining gender?

Thanks! They are five weeks old. The red one is Americauna/Rhode Island Red cross, and white one is all Americauna or however you spell it.

So based on what I have read, it looks like the red one is a rooster and the white one is a hen. But I don't know if it is that cut and dried. The red one has a more red crest and has different color feathers around the neck. What do yall think? Thanks

All six of mine were shrink wrapped. They all pipped but then stayed in same position for hours and hours. This time I actually let them all out carefully. Afterwards a few of them laid around for a long while and I worried they would die. But they didn't. the reason I chose not to wait 24 hours...

Do y'all see anything wrong with how I set this up? they are on day 12. Aside from the low temp does the positioning look right (the temp will be back up soon just took off lid).

So sadly I think I should have trusted my instincts and helped him out of the egg after over 24 hours of chirping. He chirped up to 36 hours, and then died sometime today. The chick was fully developed and pretty much all of the yolk was gone. Of course he or she was probably weaker than average...

This is the best forum ever. Thank you so much. I am truly surprised one made it at all. My bulb was too hot most of the way through and I did not get correct bulb till half way through. all that to say there were a few times it was way too hot four a few hours. So has run hot. Not sure what to...

One of my eggs is 21 days along. Yesterday on day 20 I started hearing chirping and was so excited. For over 24 hours its been chirping but not peeping. I am concerned it will run out of air, and I am also starting to suspect its not strong enough to get through the shell, like perhaps something...

I have two rhode island reds and one americana that are almost three years old and I have given up on getting them to lay eggs. they stopped about 3-4 months ago. I live in Beaverton Oregon. not looking for advice on getting them to lay, just want to rehome them.
